Chainalysis presents the annual “Crypto Crime Report”
The 2024 version of the “Crypto Crime Report”, published by blockchain data platform Chainalysis, is now available as a free download.
If you would rather listen to some of the most important bits of the new report, the “Public Key” podcast (Episode 97) is the perfect option. You can find the podcast on Spotify, Apple and Audible.
This episode discusses a broad range of topics related to crypto crime. That includes some of the most surprising and interesting trends which the Chainalysis team discovered during the research. Interestingly, that includes the use of stablecoin in illicit activities, despite obvious challenges when it comes to hiding transactions on public blockchains.
The discussion also touches on the impact of sanctions on crypto activities as well as the effectiveness of law enforcement interventions in the cryptocurrency space.
All in all, it’s very much worth listening to the podcast and to carefully study the report. There are a lot of articles which underline the use of cryptocurrencies for criminal activities or even for terrorist financing. While these are genuine concerns, they are rarely based on facts and a solid understanding of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies.
Busting myths about the crypto sector is also a key motivation behind the Blocks with Benefits project where I’m a regular contributor. You can subscribe to the free newsletter here or you can find an overview of all articles here.
