Maritime security-themed conference in Brussels
On 16 April, the Belgian Royal Higher Institute for Defence and the Centre for Security and Defence Studies organised a one-day conference which covered a broad range of maritime security issues. Under the title “Enhancing Maritime Security at the Edges of Europe”, various experts in four panels discussed the situation in the North Sea, the Mediterranean, the Black Sea and the Gulf of Guinea.
The conference took place within the framework of Belgium’s EU presidency. I was very happy to contribute as a moderator to the Gulf of Guinea panel.
The organisers are currently working on a report about the outcomes of the conference, focusing on current strategic issues. The report will be available during the second quarter of this year.
