Maritime security as a new priority for African governments
During the research for my PhD thesis, I have often found that maritime issues are not a priority for governments in Africa. While there are indeed many other issues that require attention, the maritime domain of African coastal nations could provide an important boost for economic development. In my most recent article, published on The Conversation, this is explored in more detail.
I would be delighted to hear any comments and suggestions regarding the article. In a nutshell, the topic can be summarised in two sentences:
Limiting maritime security to counter-piracy activities will not lead to sustainable solutions. Governments must adopt a more holistic approach to securing the oceans.
