New article on maritime traffic in the Red Sea
On 9 May, the Center for International Maritime Security (CIMSEC) published my latest article. It is part of the Red Sea topic week and discusses maritime traffic trends in the wake of the Houthi attacks against commercial shipping.
One important takeaway is that naval missions to counter the Houthi attacks may be worthwhile, especially for seafarers who have to face additional threats to their ships every day. However, all military operations in the region have highlighted their tactical success while there is no clear strategic ambition. That has led to shipping traffic being reduced to less than half of the “normal” level.
